JanusWords

The Black Mountain Press introduced JanusWords in winter of 2023, a quarterly literary magazine featuring words of queer, trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming writers, to support the work of LGBTQIA+ poets and provide a harbor for their truths.

Janus is the Roman god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, frames and endings. Often depicted with two mythical faces, they are said to appear in moments of great change and turbulent times to preside over the struggle between war and peace and pave the way for social and societal change.

All who find themselves reflected in the LGBTQIA+ community are encouraged to submit to JanusWords. Click the link below to submit your two best poems for publication consideration. Selected writers will receive two copies of the magazine as payment.
