Changes, by Cyn Los

I remember
. some mozo was looking
. through the open window
. at the humiliated gringa
. during the autobus stop
. in san juan del rio.
. You were too nervous to pee-
. and so peed your pants
. on the next leg
. to San Miguel de Allende,
. where earlier we witnessed
a field mouse
. snatched up by a hawk,
. a rodent that could not
. for a moment be thinking,
. “dinosaurs are extinct.”
looking now
. at the wet spot on your skirt
. as we climb the cobblestones back
. to our rooms,
. i know for certain
. that on this night
. you have become metaphorically
more complex.
