The Black Mountain Press first publications where done in collaboration with other publishers and focused on design and the then new digital technology. In 1994 the Black Mountain Press began independent book publishing focusing on books in the outdoor industry, how-to guides and destinations.
The Press has now redirected its efforts to focus on poetry, creative novels, and short story collections by emerging writers. The Black Mountain Press moved its operations to East Asheville near the community of Black Mountain, once the home of the famous Black Mountain College that produced visionary artists, writers, and musicains such as John Cage, Buckminster Fuller, Merce Cunningham, Anni Albers, Jacob Lawrence and many others. Located in a renovated old farm house, we are surrounded by 30 acres supporting grass-fed cattle and strive to promote the creative innovationof the past through literary excellence found in our emerging writers and filmmakers.
